When we last left Shadow, FBI Agent Bouldevaire, Captain Cattitude, and Phoebe, they all have discovered Captain Cattitude is indeed an alien and can, in fact, levitate. All except Shadow are unaware he has other powers as Shadow has these same powers and they have not yet been activated. Captain Cattitude is to show Shadow the powers and how to activate them soon.
Currently, all four of them are sitting at a table discussing what they can do to ensure all involved are kept safe from the government’s prying eyes. President Trump wants control over Captain Cattitude and planned to have him studied, i.e. dissected. “If Trump finds out he has power as well as Shadow, they will be in grave danger”, said a solemn Baudelaire. We must move him from Thom and Shadow’s home. Since the government knows I came to investigate, they will send more agents to snoop around. They will discover your secret and take you both away,” said Baudelaire to Shadow and Captain Cattitude. “But where can we go?” said Shadow shook by the change of events. “Yes, where will they go?” said Phoebe concerned for her BFF and Captain Cattitude. “I know of a safe house that we can move them to tonight and then we must find another once out of the country. They won’t be safe in the United States,” said Baudelaire. Just then Thom walked into the room and heard enough to say he is not leaving Shadow. He insisted that he was going to. “Now, wait a minute, if you all disappear at once, the government will be suspicious. I’m sorry Thom you have to say here and go about your life like nothing is new.
Phoebe said, “well she’s not going without me, I won’t be missed. The government has not had me in their cross-hairs.” “Fine, I agree you are not under the government’s radar for the moment. You can go, said Baudelaire.
“Now hurry we need to get leaving immediately. It won’t be long before FBI agents will be storming your home. Gather all your id’s and pack one small bag. We need to travel light, so as not to attract attention to ourselves, ” said Baudelaire.
“What do I say when they find Shadow is not here?” said an overwhelmed Thom. “Tell them you don’t know where she is that you think she may have run away from home,” said Baudelaire.
“I suggest you say your goodbyes. I don’t know how long it will be until you see them again,” said Baudelaire.
“Shadow, I love you with all my heart, please know that. I will miss you greatly and will think about you every day. I know you will be in safe arms with Captain Cattitude and Baudelaire. I so wish I could go with you. Who’s gonna sleep with me and keep me safe?” said Thom in a crackling voice. “I love you. You have taught me so much. I will always be asleep by your side,” said Shadow wiping tears away as she spoke. Shadow ran up to Thom and wrapped herself around his pant leg and hugged him deeply.
“Phoebe you’d better look after her and be the best friend you could be. I will miss you in all the inappropriate dresses you wear. You’ll need to tone it down. Can you do that?”
“Yes, I can do that for you. And I will be sure Shadow is safe, She is like a sister to me,” said Pheobe. Shadow let go on of Thom’s leg and now jumped up into his lap for once last petting session.
“Captain Cattitude I’m trusting you to take care of our precious cargo. Teach her all she needs to know to stay safe from the government and bring her back safe to me when the government heat has died down…” said Thom.
“Come, come we must get a move on. The FBI agents could be her within the hour or less. We’ll take my car for now and we will have to change to an unmarked car later …” said Baudelaire as he walked out the front door heading to his car, followed by Shadow who jumped out of Thom’s lap and began to quickly move to the door. Pheobe and Captain Cattitude followed suit…
