Tossing and turning, her mind going a mile a minute, Shadow found she couldn\u2019t sleep. At 4:00 AM, she snuck out of her room and went to the kitchen to run and slide to her heart\u2019s content. She had never felt so alive with energy.\u00a0 It seemed to seethe out of her pores. At 6:00 AM, Shadow went back to her bedroom and got under her covers and acted like she was asleep. Phoebe would be up soon, she thought.\u00a0 She was not looking forward to the conversation she needed to have with Phoebe regarding her \u2018superweapon\u2019\u00a0 comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Shadow pretended to be asleep, she heard a noise come from Phoebe\u2019s bunk bed below her. \u201cGreat, here we go,\u201d thought Shadow.\u00a0 More movement and noise below, Phoebe was awake.\u00a0 Shadow decided to break the silence: \u201cGood morning, Phoebe.:\u201d \u201cGood morning, said Phoebe with attitude in her voice back to Shadow.\u00a0 \u201cShall we talk about what is bothering you?\u201d said Shadow.\u2019\u2019 \u201cYes, let\u2019s talk about how Captain ALIEN is turning my friend into a superweapon.\u00a0 I know you can stop time, levitate, and read people\u2019s minds. I find this all very disturbing\u00a0 How do I know you aren\u2019t reading my mind now?\u201d said Phoebe. Shadow replied,\u00a0 \u201cI understand why you are scared. I am scared too.\u00a0 I\u2019m learning from Captain Cattitude I can only use these powers when there is danger present. I am not reading your mind.\u00a0 I would never invade your space without asking. You need to trust me.\u00a0 I promise I will only use these powers when necessary.\u201d Phoebe replied, \u201cTime will tell.\u00a0 I know you are my BFF, but you are changing.\u00a0 I know you got up early this morning and were gone for two hours.\u00a0 What were you doing?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHonestly, I was running and sliding around in the kitchen.\u00a0 I have nervous energy,\u201d said Shadow. \u201cYou expect me to believe that,\u201d said Phoebe.\u00a0 \u201cYes, I do,\u201d said Shadow.\u00a0 \u201cI have never lied to you.\u00a0 You have to know that.\u00a0 Please, can we go back to how we were before my powers came into existence?\u201d said Shadow.\u00a0 Phoebe changed the subject. \u201cCome on let\u2019s go eat breakfast,\u201d said Phoebe. Shadow didn\u2019t want to have bad feelings between them, so she said, \u201cOk, we can pick this up later\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
